Mayor Wilson is working to lower your cost of living
Mayor Wilson knows that, just like families across the country, many Salt Lake County residents are struggling to make ends meet. The high cost of goods, especially the cost of housing have created a cost of living crisis and Mayor Wilson is committed to making life in Salt Lake County more affordable.
Free recreation passes for Salt Lake County kids
The My County Rec Pass program has offered free passes to the county’s recreation centers to every Salt Lake County child. Since it was launched in June, 60,000 kids have signed up! The passes are saving Salt Lake families real money and helping to promote fitness, connection with others, and getting kids away from their screens!
Investing in affordable housing
- Recently, Salt Lake County invested $25 million in 17 affordable housing projects, which funded the creation or preservation of more than 1,500 affordable units.
- The Wilson Administration’s 5-year Action Plan for Human Services, Homelessness, and Criminal Justice Reform calls for adding 1,000 new units of housing — including group homes and supportive housing for those with mental illness and experiencing homelessness.
Expanding and improving libraries, parks and open spaces
Salt Lake County’s libraries, parks, trails, and recreational facilities are a significant component of the high quality of life we enjoy, as well as an important way to lower our cost of living. Mayor Wilson has led an historic addition and expansion of trails, open space, parks and recreation centers in all regions of the county.
Reducing government spending and passing balanced budgets
Every budget Mayor Wilson has proposed has been balanced and passed with bipartisan support.
Eliminating kids’ late fees at county libraries
To help save families money and reduce the barriers between kids and reading, Salt Lake County eliminated late fees for kids at all county libraries.
Protecting Meals on Wheels
As the county’s budget has grown tighter, Mayor Wilson has continually prioritized funding for Salt Lake County’s award-winning Meals on Wheels program. The program delivered a record 400,000 meals last year and conducted a record number of eligibility assessments. This program not only provides nutritious meals but for many isolated seniors, is the only daily connection they receive.
Protecting the county’s elite bond rating to lower the burden on taxpayers
Through conservative budgeting and fiscal responsibility, Mayor Wilson has supported preserving the county’s elite AAA bond ratings with all three ratings agencies each year she’s been mayor, allowing the county government to deliver services at lower costs. Only 40 counties in the nation — around 1.3 percent — have a AAA bond rating from all three ratings agencies.
Helping county residents stay in their homes
- Mayor Wilson helped hundreds of Salt Lake County residents maintain housing through the county’s Emergency Housing Voucher Program.
- The County’s Emergency Rental Assistance invested $88 million in families who needed rent or utility assistance to stay in their homes. The program kept thousands of families from being evicted from their homes during the pandemic.
