Jenny Wilson’s first 100 days as Mayor

Jenny Wilson, Candidate for Salt Lake County Mayor, unveils her plan for her first 100 days in office if she were to be elected Mayor.

AN EFFECTIVE TRANSITION

Ben McAdams built a great team and Salt Lake County has exceptional employees, elected officials and senior leaders. I would work hand in hand with them to ensure a smooth transition.

MEDICAID EXPANSION, MEDICAL MARIJUANA, MENTAL HEALTH & THE OPIOID CRISIS

Upon my election in 2004, I prioritized mental health and substance abuse issues and they have been an ongoing priority throughout my service as a Council Member. As Mayor, these issues will remain on the forefront of my agenda. I founded the Salt Lake County opioid task force and serve on the State opioid task force. Since November, I have been working with stakeholders to ensure an effective roll out of Medicaid expansion and medical marijuana that does not undermine our citizens’ intent. I am committed to use my voice, legislative ties and county resources to expand the county’s commitment to mental health and drug treatment services.

HOMELESSNESS & NEW HOMELESS CENTERS

Mayor McAdams has moved us in the right direction and in this next phase I would work to guarantee our new homeless centers benefit both the homeless population and the community at large. I would immediately engage with community partners, homeless coordinating committees, and host cities impacted as operational plans are finalized and the shelters work to open their doors.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

This is among the most pressing challenges locally and in my Council capacity, I have already begun collaborating with legislators, developers, local housing authorities, Congressional leadership and the National Association of Counties to advance solutions. I will actively push for new policies and an expansion of Section 8 support. This is a key subject for the upcoming legislative session and a priority for Salt Lake County. I will immediately strengthen and expand Salt Lake County’s efforts in this critical area.

INLAND PORT

As your Mayor, I would speak up, engage and work for transparency along with measures to address negative air quality and harmful community impacts.

CANYON PROTECTION & CLEAN AIR

Working with Rep. McAdams, I would immediately engage to pass the Federal land exchange protecting critical Wasatch Canyon lands. I would be an active member of the newly created Central Wasatch Commission and prioritize transportation solutions and canyon protection. As your Mayor, I would no longer allow the Utah Association of Counties to be the vehicle to advance policies that compromise federal land protection. I would immediately advance actions that prioritize clean air.

JUSTICE FOR WOMEN

As the first woman elected to the Salt Lake County Council, I understand the need to prioritize fair wages and respectful work conditions for women. I would work to strengthen the community connection and awareness for domestic and sexual violence survivors.

COMMUNITY CONNECTION

I would immediately go to work to expand support to Salt Lake County’s diverse communities, the disabled, the elderly, LGBTQ+ and our veterans.

JOBS, UNION SUPPORT & ECONOMIC JUSTICE

I am deeply committed to finding community solutions that lift working people and those in poverty. No one should have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. I am committed to strengthening the County’s union relationships.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & JAIL REFORM

We are making rapid progress collectively at Salt Lake County and our evidence-based systems are helping. Working with Sheriff Rivera, I will launch programs that support the release of non-violent offenders and create a pathway to success upon release.
