Investing in the County’s Westside
Mayor Wilson has made a priority of investing in Salt Lake County’s Westside communities. Across an array of areas, the Wilson Administration is committed to providing first-class amenities and helping support thriving Westside cities.
Creating three new regional parks in Westside communities
- The Wilson Administration built and opened the brand-new 28-acre Magna Regional Park, including a multipurpose field, walking paths, playground, and splash pad.
- Salt Lake County built and opened the 25-acre Pioneer Crossing Regional Park along the Jordan River in West Valley City.
- Salt Lake County partnered with South Jordan City to build the massive new Bingham Creek Regional Park, converting the old Welby Pit into 65 acres of amenities for residents to enjoy.
- Salt Lake County partnered with the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation to renovate the softball complex at Gary C. Swensen Valley Regional Park in Taylorsville.
Building new trails in Westside communities
- Salt Lake County built the western half of Parley’s Trail, creating the first east-west trail linking the Bonneville Shoreline Trail with the Jordan River Parkway.
- Salt Lake County partnered with Rio Tinto Kennecott and the Bureau of Land Management to open 16 miles of multi-use trails in Butterfield and Yellow Fork canyons.
- Salt Lake County added seven new boat launches on the Jordan River Water Trail.
Expanding the South Jordan Fitness and Aquatic Center
At the request of South Jordan City, Salt Lake County is expanding the South Jordan Fitness and Aquatic Center, with a $9 million lap lanes expansion, bleachers, and a timing system.
Building new and renovating libraries in Westside communities
- Salt Lake County replaced the old Kearns Branch Library with a brand-new, 35,000 square-foot library.
- Salt Lake County opened the new 28,000 square-foot Daybreak Branch Library in South Jordan.
